Prerequisits:
Content (Syllabus outline):
Introduction: cryptography from ancient times to modern era.
Information security risks and current data security objectives: confidentiality/privacy, authenticity, data integrity and non-repudiation.
Symetric cryptographic algorithms: substitution ciphers, transposition ciphers and standard symmetric cryptographic algorithms DES and AES.
Asymetric cryptographic algorithms RSA and Diffie-Hellman´s secure key exchange protocol.
Digital signature algorithms and hash functions.
Digital certificates and public key management.
Internet communication security algorithms and protocols from physical to application layer.
Communication security in WLAN and mobile wireless networks: GSM, TETRA, UMTS and LTE.
Objectives and competences:
Learning about basic cryptographic mechanisms and concepts.
Learning and use of the standard cryptographic algorithms and protocols.
Knowledge of the available mobile network security mechanisms inside the general layered telecommunication model.
Intended learning outcomes:
Understanding the basic cryptographic mechanisms. Knowledge of the standard encryption algorithms and secure telecommunication protocols. Security awareness in modern communication.
